Refining a Kitchen Essential

Kitchen tools are often overbuilt, fragmented across multiple use cases, and constructed with mixed materials, coatings, and assemblies that degrade over time.

For Be Well Home, the opportunity was to rethink a common object through a different lens, one grounded in clean materials, longevity, and everyday performance. The goal was not to reinvent the category, but to simplify it.

How can a single tool replace many, while aligning with a philosophy of non-toxic, intentional living?

Engineering

The Approach

Doris approached The Masher as a study in reduction.

Rather than adding features, we focused on removing them. Eliminating seams, joints, and secondary materials allowed the object to resolve into a single, continuous form. This simplification created both functional and visual clarity, while improving durability and ease of cleaning.

The geometry was carefully developed to support multiple use cases. Breaking up ground meats, mashing avocados, and softening vegetables all require different types of force and control. The final form distributes pressure evenly, allowing the tool to perform consistently across tasks without adjustment.

Material selection became central to the design. By committing fully to stainless steel, the product avoids coatings and composite construction, reinforcing both performance and the broader health philosophy of the brand.

Every decision was guided by restraint, balancing utility, tactility, and longevity.

The Outcome

The Masher is a multi-functional kitchen tool designed for daily use.

Its seamless stainless steel construction improves durability while eliminating areas where food and residue can collect. The balanced weight and faceted form allow the tool to work efficiently with minimal effort, creating a more intuitive cooking experience.

By consolidating multiple functions into a single object, the design reduces the need for excess tools while increasing overall performance.

The result is a refined essential, one that reflects a broader shift toward fewer, better objects designed to support everyday life.
